Prior to the founding of schools by the I-Foundation, Hinduism was the only major world religion which did not have a dedicated faith school in the UK. The I-Foundation founded the first Hindu faith school in London to be funded by the government. The Krishna Avanti school opened in February 2010. 2005 – Funding granted
In 2005 the DfE granted آ£11.6m for the Krishna Avanti Primary School (KAPS) in Harrow, leaving just آ£1.9m to raise from donors.
2010 – Britain’s first state-funded Hindu School opens
2010 saw the official opening of the first Hindu state-funded school, Krishna Avanti Primary School. With its wood-clad buildings, large expanses of light and grass-covered roofs, the Krishna-Avanti Primary School in Edgware, north London, proclaims its respect for the environment. 2011 – Parliament Status Granted
Till now, Hinduism was the only major world religion which did not have a government-funded faith-school to serve its community. That all changed when the Avanti Trust was born! In 2011, the British Parliament resolved that Avanti was granted the status of â€کreligious authority’ for Hindu faith schools; a great achievement for the large Hindu community of Britain!
