Avanti Fields School has emerged as a winner in the SEEDS RISE For Schools 2024 Awards

Students were invited to submit an A3 poster for the Research, Innovation, Sustainability and Enterprise (RISE) Awards which showcases examples of new and innovative products, technologies, projects, or just great ideas for ways we can make our environment healthier and more sustainable.

Children from Avanti Fields Secondary School got busy creating posters that showed their ideas of how to make the environment healthier and more sustainable. The posters were displayed at the International SEEDS conference (Sustainable Ecological Engineering Design for Society), where researchers from across the world were able to view them.

In June 2024, the RISE judging panel, which is made up of professors, officers and colleagues across the SEEDS committee institutions (Leeds Beckett University, Loughborough University, University of Suffolk, University of the West of England, Bristol) and construction engineering specialist, Keltbray, came together to judge the entries and were extremely impressed with the pupils’ hard work and ideas.

“All the entries were imaginative, creative and, above all, were clear on the messages we need to hear about the future of our planet,â€‌ said one of the judges. “It was obvious the entrants have a clear grasp of what is going on in our world and have very strong ideas on how to tackle things like climate change and deforestation. I believe our planet is in safe hands with this generation because of their passion and drive for change.â€‌

Tanvi, Y10 said: “Climate change is something important that I want to focus on, so making a poster was a good way to promote awareness through art which I enjoy. I am grateful that I have won this award.â€‌

Greemy H and Jahnavi K, Y11, said: “We are both creative and thought the competition was a good way to spread the message about saving the environment. Winning this competition was unexpected and we are delighted to receive this award.â€‌

“We are immensely proud of our students for their remarkable achievement in the SEEDS RISE For Schools 2024 Awards,â€‌ said Nisha Kholia, Head of Avanti Fields Secondary School. “Their creativity, innovation, and commitment to sustainability reflect the values we strive to instil in all our students—intellectual curiosity, empathy, and a deep sense of responsibility for our planet. This award is a testament to their hard work and the exceptional support of our science department, who encourage our students to think critically and act compassionately.â€‌

Rakhi Patel, Head of Science, said: “We are always looking for enrichment opportunities for our pupils to give them exposure to the wider world and applications of their learning.

“This poster competition allowed our pupils to showcase their care and compassion for the Earth, their intellectual ability in the depth of science knowledge and their strength of character in the empathy showcased in the posters. We are extremely proud of their independent work, dedication and integrity displayed via this competition.â€‌

Avanti Fields received prizes for their entries at a RISE awards ceremony on Friday, 13th December.
